Kotobukiya Star Wars: R2-D2 Silicon Tray

My wife and I got this as a gift for some friends of ours who are big Star Wars fans. One thing to note, these are not full molds. I assumed from the picture that you could close two halves of a mold to create a full R2D2. Not the case. Not a bad thing, just something they don't say explicitly in the description. Our friends tried to put chocolate in the molds with limited success. Because of all the great detail in the molds, it's difficult to get brittle materials out of them. All in all, it's a cool novelty gift with limited functionality.

I bought this mold to make a surprise for my boyfriend. It's a cute idea, but there are a lot of nooks and cranies, so they don't come out of the mold as easily as I had hoped. I've made several batches, and I think I got one foot on R2 on one mold once. All of the rest the feet broke off in trying to get the filling out of the mold. The rest was a convincing R2D2 even w/o the feet though, so overall I am pretty happy with it.

Ice Cube Trays work great. Flexible enough molds that I can get the ice R2s out without breaking them. Boiling water before making ice with them will help clarify the ice R2s that come out.
