Trigger didn't work at all out of the box. The motor ran but it would not release the discs.
I took it apart to diagnose the problem, and found the system of spring-loaded plastic levers wasn't moving enough upon a trigger pull to enable the spinning belt to grab the disc to launch. Though all the parts were failing to move their full intended range, one of the smaller springs in particular seemed to be a primary culprit. I stretched this spring out to give it more recoil ability, and was able to get the shield to sporadically launch a dozen or so discs before the spring compressed down too much again and it stopped launching altogether again.
I was actually impressed with the no-cut packaging (kids are always sad how long it takes to get their new toys out of the zip-tied over-taped packages). Unfortunately the packaging doesn't allow a way for you to test the trigger mechanism before opening entirely to see if yours is a potential dud.

"Awesome" is the word used by my 7 year old superhero-nut. He was so excited to get this in the mail. I wished I could have taken a video of him opening the package! He loved it. Two weeks later, he still loved it. The only problem for me was that I now have to order a Captain America costume to go along with it.
How does the shield work? You insert (I think it is 5) foam disks into a compartment. As you squeeze the trigger by the handle, the disks fly out, one by one, toward your target. They don't come out hard enough to hurt anybody. I know. I was shot in the face repeatedly.
Note: Don't forget to buy 4-AA batteries. 8^)

My son and I are avid superhero fans and this was a gift that he wanted for Christmas. When we opened it up he began to play with it immediately shooting everyone in the house with the launching discs. Initially, we thought the shield may have been a dud as we couldn't get the discs to launch, but then we realized we didn't turn the power switch on. After that it's been all fun. My son loves it.
