Product Description

Dragons Series 1 "Quest for the Lost King" ETERNAL Clan Dragon Action Figure by McFarlane Toys. Eternal Clan Dragons were domesticated by humans. These dragons nest in the mountain tops live in the clouds thrive in thunderstorms frolic in hurricanes and are sometimes mistaken for shooting stars. They rarely alight on the ground voluntarily. A great cataclysm struck the dragon nation, killing the king, destroying their civilization and causing the disappearance of the sole heir to the dragon throne, the king's son. The dragons that survived the great disaster fled to many hidden points of the globe. Humanity rose to power, inventing its own language and writing, and building the Earth's dominant culture. But when a dragon that seems to have the gift of speech is sighted by men, all bets are suddenly off. How will the two species interact? Will there be peace between dragon and man? Or war?

Summary: least of a great series 2005-04-16
Comment: This is a work of decorative art, not a plaything.

An insanely detailed 10" sculpture, the Eternal Clan Dragon should appeal to fans of dragons and collectors of McFarlane figures. It has the high production values typical of the line, though these are marred by a few minors flaws. The figure is difficult to fit precisely to the base, some seams are a little obvious, and on the one I bought the rider's axe haft was broken (though easily repaired).

The figure is not articulated or posable, and it is too delicate and has too many pointy bits to allow use as an "action figure" in the traditional sense.

All the dragons in the "Quest for the Lost King" line are radically different in appearance and have a lot of individual character. This one is a little too birdlike for my tastes, but that's down to personal aesthetics. The feet are another weak point. The dragon's face, the reins and harness, and the ruined tower base are all great, though.

I appreciate the attempt to provide backstory for each of the characters, but for me it didn't really add much value -- far more fun to make these things up in my own head.

Overall: Great product for collectors, but get the other figures in this series first. Every time you look at it you'll spot some new detail. Not a toy for rough play or little kids.

Summary: Great Looking Beastie 2005-03-11
Comment: I collect well-sculpted dinosaur figures, and since they aren't really being produced right now, this will do! I stumbled across this line by accident. Though all of these McFarlane dragons are attractive, this is my favorite. The is something regal about the pose, both reptile and birdlike. The detail and paint job are excellent. I could take or leave the warrior astride it's back, but it is interesting. Also interesting is the crushed roof that serves as a perch. BAD idea: the toenails are sculpted into the roof, and not the actual feet - good luck getting a perfect fit! Not a big problem. Too fragile to actually play with, and little articulation. This serves as a VERY attractive sculpture, and I wish there was NO articulation so as to do away with all seams. Beauty.
