The first thing I noticed when I received this hippo in the mail was the size. I didn't check the product specs before purchasing and failed to note that the item is over nine inches long and weighs more than a pound. This makes is much, MUCH bigger than any of my Schleich figurines, Safari, PAPO, etc. It's sort of the monster-hippo.

Size issues aside, this toy is extremely realistic and durable enough for a child to play with. The inside of the nostrils are a pale pink, the muzzle is dimpled, and even the teeth are yellowed and stained like a real hippopotamus in the wilds of Africa. The model is very accurate and the paint job is perfect. Overall - it was money well spent.

my son loves hips and he was thrilled to get this item. it is huge compared to past safari offering. i have been buying the safari brand toys for a while, and this hippo is really cool. i like that they are bigger, but they now make them hollow. this one is hollow and it takes away from the appearance of durability. i would like it to be smaller and not hollow. being miniature detailed animals is where you find the charm of the safari animal collection.

My son is obsessed with hippos so I got him this for his birthday. He loves it. It is very durable.
